Hi Martin,

I have an idea about your problem. The file you are referring to has been a pet peeve of mine for some time. Real Player on my PC attempts to "phone home" about once an hour, every hour, seven days a week. I believe that it is wanting to send the file in question back to Real Networks. I further believe that this file is most often, an open file as Real Networks collects whatever it needs to collect before it phones home. As I look at the file (rnsystem.dat) at this moment, the time stamp is within 10 minutes of the current time.

I have had ZoneAlarm disallow this intrusion, but everytime Real Networks is denied access, the action is logged.

I have also used Backup Exec and have mixed opinions about it. I have had to purchase an "Open File Agent" to be able to back up live database files that are always "open" on our servers. If you do not have this agent, Backup Exec will not backup your open file and report an error such as the one you reported.

If this is the case, and this is the only file not backed up by Backup Exec, do not worry further. This file has no use to you anyway.
