No, but US active participation began after Pearl Harbor.

Japan was doing nothing that the West hadn't already done in Asia (and continued to do through the 1970s).


I don't know. The west did colonize most of Asia by force. And some awful things were done in the process. But I've read about the Rape of Nanking and the Japanese activities seem to have been a bit more blood-thirsty than most other colonial powers.
