Excuse me -- but that definitely is NOT what Alfred Lord Tennyson meant.

Lord Tennyson was exalting two values of humankind: HONOR and DUTY.

Tennyson knew well the full circumstances of the charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimea. He knew that there had been a failure in communications within the chain of command. He knew that the commanding officer of the Brigade and all of its officers and men were aware that their charge almost certainly meant death. He knew that these several hundred men, individually and collectively, chose to obey, rather than defy, an order given to them.

The story of the Brigade is remembered centuries later not as an exercise in futility and stupidity, but as a shining example of fidelity to duty and honor. None of us will ever know how that example influenced the generations to come, including the heroes of the WTC.

I agree that you are as smart as any of these others. Perhaps they share your puzzlement as to why YOU don't "get it."
