JERUSALEM: The Israeli militant group Kach staged a riot outside the US Consulate in Jerusalem Friday afternoon, attacking the Consulate and assaulting a Consulate security guard.

The condition of the security guard is unknown. Two rioters were held and questioned by the Israeli police, according to the Israeli army radio.

The riots were sparked in protest of what Kach calls America’s ‘biased’ and unjust intervention in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Kach supporters say that the US has no right interfering in Israel’s domestic disputes.

Israel is the largest recipient of American foreign and military aid in the world, currently 4 out of 5 American tax dollars that are spent on foreign aid go directly to Israel.

Foreign aid’s estimates to the Jewish state varies, while some put it around 3 billion US dollars a year, others say that it reaches as high as 12 billion.

Meanwhile, the US congress has pressured the Bush administration to withhold all aid to the Palestinian Authority.

Israeli authorities are yet to comment on the US Consulate assault.
