I'm not sure I agree with you about the invasion of Britain -- I think Germany could have done it then if they had wanted to. Too much of the British coast was undefended at that point. Many places to have put troops ashore and established beachheads. My cursory memory of military history is that most historians think Germany could have mounted a successful invasion, at least to the point of gaining a substantial beachhead. Of course, that might have brought the US into the war then, but that's pure speculation (as the rest is).

But we do agree that declaring war on Russia was the ultimate stupidity.

If Hitler had let his generals prosecute the war as they wanted to, I shudder to think what the outcome might have been.

We should thank our lucky stars that the same egoistic meglomania that got him to where he was in 1939 remained with him throughout the war.

But for all his evils, he is certainly one of the more interesting figures of history.
