<<why do you like PFE vs. other major pharma?>>
Margins kick MAJOR a$$! They've got a great pipeline via the WLA acquisition, as well as the single most profitable drug in the world, lipitor (atorvastatin). When it comes to serious cholesterol reduction, everything else is piss! They're big in cardiovascular in general, they've got a great antibiotic franchise with zithromax and diflucan, and an important player in SSRI's with zoloft (though generic prozac is destined to take a chunk out of everyone's hide). Despite the controversy regarding possible increased cardiac risk, Celebrex is still huge. The WLA acquisition also gave them neurontin, which is currently the biggest selling anticonvulsant in terms of dollar volume, and accupril in the ACE-inhibitor area. An aging target population will especially benefit their market niches for years to come. They're a bit more pricy on a PE basis than MRK, SGP and BMY, but frankly, they generate a higher ROE, have more products that will be on patent protection longer, and have a better pipeline.
Finally, they own Viagra, which is the crack cocaine of the geriatric and almost geriatric set. |
