They're sales force is second to none (although I do agree with you on the arrogance; maybe that'll "improve" now that their stock has raced the others to the bottom ;-))

On the Atorvastatin vs. Simvastatin issue, I think one other big advantage for Atorvastatin (lipitor) is "scalability" (to use a rancid New Economy phrase). You can get larger LDL-C reductions with the maximum recommended dose of lipitor than you can with zocor. For the vast majority of patients it's not an issue since you can get most folks into "target" with either drug. However, at starting doses there's usually less dose adjustment needed w/Lipitor (ie, the first dose does not need to be increased as often with lipitor). Docs like that, less hassle, less reinstructing patients, less rewriting of prescriptions. Little things that mean a lot when you prescribe a certain drug, say 15X a week....

Viagra's done OK, a billion dollars a year is nothing to sneeze at (though there clearly WAS inflated...ERRR, EXPECTATIONS for the drug immediately before and after it's approval and initial distribution).

I don't mean to sound like a pimp for Pfizer, but they DO do their job well....in-house research could be stronger, but as long as they can use their assets to acquire and leverage product effectively, they'll be fine. They did pay way too much for Pharmacia, on that we agree.

DISCLOSURE: I'm long PFE shares.
