I guess I misunderstand too. Do you mean you are long LEAP calls at all times? How does this protect your long position? If you sense a sharp sellof, do you sell as many calls short as you own long? This leaves you with a net long underlying position which is fully exposed to the selloff. What am i missing?

Personally, I'm comfortable being unprotected with MSFT as I intend to hold it until I retire. In my opinion, the price of MSFT (and other fine companies) does not depend one whit on tomorrow's price assuming we're looking ahead five years. Thus, if MSFT dropped 30% tomorrow, it wouldn't bother be in the least.

Thoughts?
