Hi Maurice, <<While Taiwanese have a will to remain separate>>
Here are some facts: 400k of the most productive of them live in Greater Shanghai, investing, working, raising families; 100k other productive ones live in Fujian; their capital is gushing out; their Westpoint trained officers are retiring to military academies on the mainland, and some are taking up commissioned posts; the two militaries are talking limited cooperation as I post [EDIT: speculation - this is why the most advanced of the US goodies are not going to Taiwan].
Here is my anticipation: Taiwan's will to remain separate is changing to a wish of not being kept out.
Here is a given: The material aspects of the US military machine will be matched by China, at 1/3 the original cost, made in China, within 20(?) years, and so that game has a rapidly approaching finite end point.
Here is a guess by the local newspapers: Thus Taiwan's reluctance to place orders for their granted list of US weapons, because they know it is a waste of money that they do not have.
<<But there's a lot of stuff going on which could paradigm shift everyone's attention in a big way.
Then there are the surprises>>
... Here you may have something ... Taiwan may be traded by the US for something or other, depending on what is happening elsewhere ... Taiwan may surrender ... or China may simply take Taiwan when it is time.
In any case, the Taiwanese themselves know what the final score will be, even if their fans do not.
<<peace, light, harmony>> comes afterwards.
