Microsemi Introduces High Frequency PWM Power Supply Controller

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 2002--Microsemi Corp. (Nasdaq:MSCC - News):

Integrated Design Reduces Component Costs
Choice of 300KHz, 600KHz, 900KHz Operation
Fully Programmable Power Sequencing
Includes Adjustable Linear Regulator Driver
Targets Video Cards, Computer Add-On Cards, Computer
Peripherals, Low Voltage Power Conversion Applications

Microsemi Corp. (Nasdaq:MSCC - News), a leading manufacturer of power management integrated circuits, has announced a new highly integrated high frequency power supply controller combining a synchronous PWM switching regulator with an adjustable linear regulator driver.

Designated the LX1673(TM), the new DC/DC controller is designed to reduce circuit component costs in video card power supplies, double data rate (DDR) memory termination, computer peripherals, computer add-on cards, low voltage applications, and 3.3V power conversion applications.

Featuring two independently regulated outputs, the LX1673 can provide outputs as low as 0.8V from an internal 1% reference. The PWM output is capable of sourcing up to 15A, while the adjustable low dropout regulator can simultaneously supply up to 5A for input/output, memory and other supplies surrounding microprocessor designs.

"The high degree of integrated functionality and inherent versatility of this device should make the LX1673 a joy for circuit designers to work with," said Kelly Jones, Microsemi Integrated Products General Manager. "It will help them to eliminate some components, save board space and reduce system costs," he said.

The LX1673 can be configured for power conversion from any input voltage up to 12V, and three high switching frequency options are provided: 300KHz, 600KHz and 900KHz.

High current MOSFET drivers are integrated as are soft-start and power sequencing control functions. Integrated hiccup-mode current limiting enables the LX1673 to monitor maximum current limit conditions without the use of costly external current sense resistors.

The LX1673 is available for immediate sampling and delivery in a space-saving 20-pin MLP (Jedec MO-229) surface mount power package, with 10K quantity pricing at $0.99. Complete technical information is available on the Microsemi web site, www.Microsemi.com. Samples and evaluation boards can be ordered through this site, or from Microsemi sales representatives and franchised distributors.
