The West is not JUST a "life support system for THEIR WANTS.. For example, to drill ANWAR, for 60 days of oil is shear ignorance at the best, or shear greed at the worst.

The oil would not be gone in 60 days. The amount of oil might only supply the US for 60 days if it was our only source, but unless we are going to find another Saudi Arabia almost any find will only be "60 days of oil supply" or less. Its apparently a very big find. Its foolish to leave it out of bounds forever, although I don't think there is really a need to rush in and start drilling at the earliest opportunity.

As for the west as a "life support system" for the wants of the east, frequently its the people from the east seeking a higher degree of environmental protection in the west while the people in the West, who stand to lose the use of a lot of land are told to accept it because its "for the environment".
