AMD already launches products in low volume. It's what you call a "paper launch", and they have become quite good at it. I suppose it's their way of "reducing risk".

Itanium seems like a good example of this kind of "risk reduction" limited release.

I don't accept your argument that you can't debug hardware problems on shipping product. It is just more effort. You could
- take the symptoms/apps and try and repro the problem in the lab
- get the customer to ship the problem machine to you
- take your equipment on-site.

After all, Intel has had their fair share of having to fix bugs on shipping product, haven't they?
