The technology keeps advancing so fast that everyone will have more capacity than they can ever use. Competition will be so fierce that they'll all (the ones that are left) be giving their services away just so they can brag to the other guy ..."I've got more customers (share of the market) than you have even if I'm not making any money!" You are wrong Anonymous....there is NO CASH left for many of the Carriers. There is rationalization going on right NOW and the few remaining players (C&W being one of them) are actually telling the small, price-sensitive customers to get lost and are firming up their data price. EVERYONE is looking for margins, profitability and positive cashflow now and the telecom Carrier market will consolidate faster than you think. At that point, it will become an Oligopolistic market and when that happens, it doesn't matter whether technology will drive bandwidth cost lower, the big remaining players will jack up the price and gain windfall margins. This is the history of Capitalism....and the result of Darwinian fight for market share when a new market emerges (telecom/Internet is essentially a new market since it has only been recent that the communication market got DEREGULATED....)
