Not much action on this board recently, but I guess there's not much to say right now. I guess everyone is just waiting for introduction of LaserBrush, FDA approval of Millennium, & any other news.

Anyway, let me throw something out about LaserBrush and see what people think.

I have seen the company's flyer on this product and with the current marketing, I really wonder if it will be a great success. The following points come to mind as potential problems:

1. The name LaserBrush seems misleading to me (unless I am wrong and there really is a low power laser in it). Will customers think they are buying a laser and be disappointed when they find out it is not? It does occur to me that in the mass market, most of the customers really wouldn't know the difference unless some hot shot investigative reporter does an expose and accuses BioLase of misleading advertising. Does anyone know what the exact technology is?

2. The idea that the special toothpaste will work by "staining and neutralizing bacteria" brings to mind the red tablets that were around when I was a kid. They stained the whole mouth red except where the teeth were clean. I guess they did their job well in identifying the places that needed brushing, but who wanted to walk around with a bright red mouth? I hope the stain used in the toothpaste is not noticeable under normal light.

3. How does the cost for performance of LaserBrush compare to other whitening methods? I assume it will be significantly better than Rembrandt Toothpaste and not as good as a laser procedure in a dentist's office. But how does it compare with a bleaching process where you wear a type of mouth guard containing a bleaching agent (I'm thinking of the one you get from the dentist here, not the one you can buy in the stores). Also, how long will the whitening take when using the LaserBrush? Is this a 1 week, 1 month or 1 year process? If it takes a long time and if the toothpaste is expensive, then the total cost of this process might rival the other dental procedures.

4. Finally, one of the questions that has always been in the back of my mind has been why will BioLase market this product using infomercials? This question bothers me because I really don't know the demographics of who buys products from this medium and how much they spend for their purchases. Perhaps someone could add to our knowledge in this area.

Input in any of these areas would be greatly appreciated.
