It would hep a lot if all options had to be held for a minimum of 5 years-whether still employed or not.

We will still have to deal with the problem that immediate expensing of options violates the matching principle, and thus allows for manipulation. Options should be expensed, but amortized, with a reasonable allowance for price fluxuations. That would make them predictable for anyone doing DD. Options that can be exercised in less than three years should be immediately expensed, and publicly reported on the day of issue. Along the same lines, insider trades should be automatically reported on the Internet at the time of trade confirmation, and ALL the trades in ANY security by corporate officers or directors should be reportable within 30 days...
