One other point is that the whole purpose of the EU is to break down barriers between member nations and its understood by those members that over time your individual sovereignty will diminish in favor of the EU. Its not the same as the US signing a treaty with the EU for an example.

The EU's purpose is to break down trade barriers. Later a common currency (which Britain opted out of) and some measure of foreign policy cooperation where added but they can arguable contribute to the main objective. A common currency makes trade easier and agreement on foreign policy can help minimize disruptions to trade. But I don't see how marriages of transvestites are related to the objective, or to any agreement actually signed and ratified by the UK.

I think US treaties would be different because we our more careful about our sovereignty. My point is if we cease to be so careful then there is a danger of losing sovereignty.
