Korea, China and Japan decided to cooperate for the standardization of next-generation IT and co-projects including the fourth-generation mobile communication and IPv6. The Ministry of Information & Communication (MIC) told that the Ministry's International Coordinator Yang Jun-chul, Chinese New Industry Department Chief Chi Wen Chu and Japanese General Affair Department Chief Nabekura agreed for the cooperation at an IT meeting between the three countries held in Kunming, China on July 24th and began to form a working-level group.

It is very unprecedented event that the three countries cooperate with each other for the standardization of next-generation IT. The three nations' goal is to lead the global mobile communication industry and set up the fourth-generation technology standards.

They decided to hold a general meeting for those goals and cooperate on IPv6 technology, too. They expressed worries over the spreading of hacking, viruses, obscene materials and spam mails and are seeking ways to link their PKI systems. They also decided to launch a test project to make a co-government procurement process.

They will hold an IT Minister's meeting regularly with its first meeting expected to be held within this year, and create such working groups as a policy-coordinating group, IPv6 group, the third-generation mobile communication group, network security group and e-ASEAN cooperative group.

China and Japan agreed to participate in establishing an IT education supporting center and sending IT policy advisory group to Southeast Asia, led by the Korean government to narrow down the IT gaps that exist in the Asian region.

Mr. Yang discussed ways to expand investments and technological exchange with Chinese Yunnan local government Vice Chief and plans to discuss on how to expand CDMA mobile communications service in the region meeting with related local department chief and China Unicom's local branch chief.
