John: I know companies use BS but that doesn't mean its right. Liberman was infulenced by the business community who's position is options help allign employees with the interests of shareowners. This is a good concept. Is it right? Well there are pro's and con's. Right now were seeing the negatives. I disagree with BS. Why don't companies use the intrinsic value method (also acceptable under GAAP)? The answer is it is not predictable and we know how companies like to predict / control income items. A problem with BS is there is never any true up to the actuals (at least in current footnote reporting). The options issue is not clear cut and I'm glad this was not part of the bill just approved.
