Gary, The HLIT thread surprised me with their reaction to the Soundview comments. It may have been motivated to do something, but it may also have a shadow of truth. I don't know.

Either way, I just reported it so you would be aware. In the end, Antec will be more dependant on TCI than HLIT, but HLIT is not immune to TCI spending even if it is money they could have had, but didn't get. After all, TCI is the biggest cable company and both these companies stand to benefit from TCI spending.

HLIT had in the past accounted 10% of their revenue to ANTC. This selling through distributors is changing for HLIT and won't be as high in the future, but it is likely that some of HLIT's sales to distributors are resold to TCI.

Anyway, it doesn;t matter. What matters is HLIT did get a good number and that should bode well for Antec as well as it indicates general health in the sector.

In my area, Contra Costa County (San Francisco), TCI is rolling out a program called All TV which is 128 channel digital TV program. It was first tested in Fremont whch is near here and there were also trials in suburban Chicago and Hartford, Conn.

At the momment, they only talk about TV. No mention of 2 way communication, telephoney or anything else. Perhaps that is wise as they need to stay focused. Anyway, about 8 months ago, the contractor laying TCI's new fiber optic trunk cable cut the phone trunk line near my house. So, I happened to take notice of the fact that they do have some backbone going in to support a more serious offering.

This article says, "Promises of a speedy roll out suggest TCI will keep pledges made in April by TCI top executives John Malone and Leo Hindery to deploy All TV to most of the company's markets before the end of the year. They vowed that at least 75%, and perhaps 90%, of TCI's systems would have the service sometime in 1997".

Sounds like 2 conflicting sentences, but anyway it seems to indicate a beginning.
