Good thing they haven't spent it yet. The companies that were spending their cash, or borrowing in order to spend, are in big trouble. Anyone making acquisitions over the past few years was asking for trouble, or at a minimum paying WAY, WAY too much money for whoever they were acquiring.

MSFT has been extremely smart to hold onto their cash. Now, and over the next couple of years, will be the right time to scoop up the bargains that are out there. At a minimum, they are bargains compared to what they've been the last 4 years. MSFT is in an AWESOME position from cash acquisition standpoint.

And they got there by NOT spending the cash up until now.
