China's Copper Production Rises 11% in First Half Beijing, July 25 (Bloomberg) -- China's refined copper output rose 11 percent in the first six months of the year, the country's State Statistics Bureau said. China produced 774,000 metric tons of copper in the first half, the bureau said. In June, China's copper output rose 9.9 percent to 134,000 tons. Demand for new housing, automobiles and appliances has kept copper consumption growing at an average 18 percent a year since 1998, compared with 4.7 percent growth in the global market, the Information Center of China National Non-ferrous Metals Industry said in a report this month. China's government increased investment in housing developments, dams and other projects to buoy domestic demand and keep economic growth above 7 percent. --Rob Delaney in Beijing (8610) 6505-0589, or at robdelaney@bloomberg.net.
