Jeff, as of 7/23 US stock investors lost $8,000,000,000,000 out of the approx. $16,000,000,000,000 all-time high total market cap in 2000 ($8 trillion out of $16 trillion). US annual GDP is about $10,000,000,000,000 ($10 trillion). Total US residential real estate value, assuming approx. 100,000,000 housing units at an average value of $150,000-$200,000 (this includes single-family houses, townhouses, condos, apartments, etc.), is at $15-20,000,000,000,000 ($15-20 trillion). Equity is, of course, just a portion of that $15-20,000,000,000,000 total real estate value.
