The Fed releases an "abstract" of each FOMC meeting 3 months after the meeting date. But a full transcript only 5 years after the meeting.

I certainly wish I could read them sooner, but they do need to be able to speak freely - not as politicians. It's interesting reading! The Fed Governors and staff really are bright beyond words, trying to grapple with various possibilities with only hints of information. They need to act before patterns become clear.

Deflation has scared them since the Asia Crisis first hit. Their meetings sound a lot like the Charles Kindleberger interview in the Wall Street Journal. They are clearly trying to dodge the bullet, but I'm not sure to what extent that's even possible. The Austrian school of economics would basically flat out say the down cycle is unavoidable.
