When one of the pinheads admits that the Clinton Affair was about more than "sex" and that Starr was doing his job, then maybe you'll have something on me.

The Clinton Affair was about much more than sex, absolutely. It became more because the country made it more. It's an American thing. In most countries it wouldn't have raised more than a snicker. I remember a Nigerian friend's comment: "...in my country, President get blow job, nobody worry. President GIVE blow job, maybe we worry..."

Starr was doing his job. You don't put a bloodhound on a scent and then expect him to back off. You might conceivably ask why the bloodhound was put on that particular scent.

Whether we like it or not, and whether it's justifiable or not, for most people the Clinton administration will be remembered as a time of prosperity and peace and a time when America had the respect of the world. That's ironic in many ways and absurd in many other ways, but it's still true. The Monica affair will be a titillating footnote.

Purveyors of trivia will debate which had the greater impact, Clinton's inability to control his willie or the Republican decision to try to use his willie as a lever to bring him down. But for the most part it will soon be forgotten.
