I find Bush an immeasureable improvement over Clinton as a man and as a leader..... Damning with faint praise.... Certainly they have very different flaws. Clinton had the good fortune to preside during a relatively placid period, one that did not place excessive demands, one good reason why memory will probably treat him gently. Bush does not have that luxury, and on current evidence I have no great confidence in his ability to meet the challenges he faces. I don't think Clinton or Gore would have been very well equipped to meet them either. It's depressing that we have to define our options in such terms.
