While qv wrote a very nice bit of prose, don't think for a minute that Q longs have lost sight of the fact that the technological issues point inexorably towards Q's continued growth and profitability.

Why? Spectral efficiency and technological maturity. While the Cabal fiddles and tweaks GPRS, EDGE and UMTS, 1x is cheaper, real, and available now. Moreover, it provides spectral efficiencies that would make it a formidable competitor even if the Cabal had its technologies performing optimally.

The Japanese and Korean experiences have been stellar while Q's competitors cannot get anything right. If carriers continue on the primrose path laid out for them by the Cabal, they will suffer. We saw a taste of their future yesterday in Quam's demise. There will be more.

At one point, I was pessimistic about Q's chances against UMTS. Now I'm not so sure my pessimism was justified. Even if it is, Q will do extremely well with its own technology.
