Eric - re: " Intel dropping regular Pentium starts in the near future and doing only PII and PPro?"

I think "regular" Pentium refers to the original Pentium WITHOUT MMX.

Intel will most definitely continue building Pentium MMX devices which are still Socket 7 devices. (or Mobile Modules, if so packaged).

Thus, Intel will be the largest supplier (as always) of Socket 7 devices even as they ramp up Pentium II/Slot 1.

I would guess Intel will maintain Pentium MMX production up to a point where they can abandon it with minimal loss of revenue and at a point where AMD and Cyrix can't make a decent profit on their Socket 7 devices, even with Intel out of that market segment. This should be 1999 or thereabouts.
