Hi John, RE: "Intel and most other tech companies thought it was recovering in the first quarter.

The warnings have had a direct effect and an indirect effect on the economy. Consumers obviously feel less confident and secure if their lives are threatened. Companies feel less confident and secure if consumers feel less confident and secure."

I think you may have hit it on the head.

I would also add that non-consumer companies would also get more cautious because if consumers are expected to get cautious, they would expect the consumer-businesses to get a bit cautious too, and thus they would be more inclined to get a tad cautious. Also, one knows that a terrorist attack could impact most businesses temporarily. It's all linked.

And you're right about Q1 being a solid quarter for most high-tech public and private companies, but a small-something happened to many of the companies about one month ago, over a period of two months (May & June) when the warnings happened.

I tend to focus on a person's content (factual information), not necessarily a person's tone of voice (delivery style), but after seeing the impact of Bush's communication style (delivery style) I'm now a firm believer in the financial importance of a confidence-building communication style. Some people think delivery style is fluff, but maybe it's not - it's possible it can impact the bottom-line if it erodes confidence.

Regards,
Amy J
