Mephisto, the U.S. unemployment rate is seriously understated. After six months the system simply assumes that you have gotten a job and you're off the dole. The economy isn't creating jobs. And the labor pool is shrinking. The Govt. has looted pension funds. Ten thousand Americans turn fifty PER DAY. So you can imagine the problems down the road. Un-funded Social Security contingent liabilities estimated looking forward $10 Trillion Un-funded Medicare contingent liabilities, estimated $ 7 Trillion Un-funded federal employee pension and medical contingent liabilities (incl. Postal service) no estimate - Trillions Un-funded state & local government employee pension & medical liabilities no estimate - Trillions Other off-budget Federal Govt. borrowings ? anybody's guess.
