NEWS OUT ON IVS BECOMES GTE WIRELESS DATA SOULUTIONS PROVIDER

IVS Intelligent Vehicle Systems Inc -

GTE wireless data solutions contract

IVS Intelligent Vehicle Systems Inc IVMShares issued 148716031997-07-14 close $0.79Tuesday Jul 15 1997Mr Michael Fisher reports The company has signed an agreement with GTE to jointly pursue projects involving IVS' Mobile Failure Detection System for mobile fleet management and remote truck diagnostics. The IVS systems enable fleet owners and truck manufacturers to monitor and diagnose vehicle problems, remotely and in real time, regardless of the location of the truck or car. IVS recently developed the Smartlink - a self contained, wireless mobile failure detection and communication system which can be permanently installed in a vehicle. The Smartlink contains an integral cellular phone transceiver and modem, a Global Positioning (GPS) receiver, and diagnostic circuitry which enables it to monitor and detect vehicle system failures for both cars and heavy duty trucks. Additionally, the system can be configured to provide an alert to the driver and the fleet owner of a vehicle theft in progress. Smartlink has the capability of automatically detecting and capturing both current and impending engine, transmission, and ABS braking failures. When a failure is detected, it transmits the information using GTE Wireless Packet Data (ODPD) service to fleet managers and hotline maintenance centers, providing 24 hour roadside assistance. The Wireless Packet Data Service uses Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) technology to reliably and securely transmit data packets. A short message over CDPD costs $0.01 to $0.02 with no charges for roaming. CDPD transmissions are fast, reliable, and particularly well suited for the transportation industry, since a vehicle's location and status can be transmitted to the fleet owner quickly and inexpensively. GTE is one of the largest publicly held telecommunications companies in the world. In its wireless operations, GTE provides telecommunications products and services to more than four million customers in 73 metropolitan and 52 rural markets nationwide.
