McCain's Next Act: Hosting SNL
PHOENIX, Ariz. — Arizona Sen. John McCain said he's thankful there will be a week of rehearsals before he guest hosts Saturday Night Live this fall.

Jennifer Skorlich, NBC's director of non-prime-time programming, confirmed Thursday that McCain will be an SNL host.

The date of McCain's appearance was not immediately announced.

"It impresses my kids. That, alone, is sufficient reason to do it," McCain told The Arizona Republic. "It's the first time my 17-year-old daughter has been impressed since she (became) a teenager."

McCain said recent polls have shown that many young people get their political news from Jay Leno, David Letterman, SNL, or Comedy Central.

"It's scary, but true," he said.

As for the content of his opening monologue, McCain said he's still deciding what he'll say.

McCain, who ran unsuccessfully for president in 2000, will be follow other politicians who have guest hosted SNL, from former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani to former Sen. George McGovern.
