Telecom Italia Mobile SpA, Vodafone PLC's Omnitel, ENEL SpA's Wind and
Hutchison Whampoa Ltd's H3G intend to launch third generation services by the
end of the year, La Repubblica said.

The report on Saturday, citing company sources and analysts, followed Telefonica
SpA's decision to freeze its overseas 3G investments, including those in Italy via
its Ipse licence holder.

H3G was quoted as saying it plans to launch its services in the third quarter of
this year when it expects to have a large quantity of terminals under agreements
with Motorola and NEC.

TIM is the first operator in Europe to offer MMS messaging services and has the
resources to launch UMTS, the newspaper said noting previous comments by TIM
on the uncertainty for 3G.

Omnitel sees "an evolution" to new services, from GSM, and plans higher speed
services using the intermediate technology GPRS or UMTS, it said.

Wind expects to launch experimental UMTS services in the main cities at the end
of this year and strengthen its marketing during 2003, it said.

Il Sole 24 Ore said Sunday that TIM started amortising its 2.4 bln eur UMTS
licence in the first quarter of this year.
