That is interesting (of course). The Vollum Institute is the academic institution working with NBIX in this area. From NBIX's site.

Melanocortin receptors are involved in the control of endocrine, autonomic and central nervous system function. To date, a family of five melanocortin receptor subtypes has been identified; several of which have been cloned by the Company's consultant and collaborator Roger Cone, Ph.D., Senior Scientist, Vollum Institute of the Oregon Health Science University. One of the melanocortin receptor subtypes, MC4, has recently been identified as an important regulating mechanism for appetite, body weight and insulin secretion which represents a novel target for the treatment of obesity and diabetes. This technology combined with Neurocrine's expertise in obesity, anorexia nervosa and diabetes provides additional avenues for the discovery of effective therapies for the treatment of other endocrine functions and brain disorders.

Neurocrine has completed high throughput screening of its chemical compound library and has identified numerous molecules which interact with MC receptors including MC4. The Company is in the process of optimizing lead compounds necessary to generate in vivo animal data to validate the therapeutic utility of this mechanism.

Further, the company has a presentation scheduled towards the end of August. Perhaps they will be in a postion to tell us more about what they are up to by then.
