*** Comet goes AWOL *** Cool, a fight on Write What You Like. I might be able to ban somebody else. Ramsey Su has been banned a couple of times, but he comes back occasionally anyway, a bit like the 1 February 2019 comet which is apparently NOT going to hit us - hmmmm I almost feel a slight disappointment as though a challenge has given up before we even had a chance to beat it - those comets are real wimps.

< 2002 NT7, a two-kilometre-wide (1.4 miles) chunk of rock, was discovered on 9 July. Initial estimates of its orbit suggested there was a small chance of it colliding with our planet in 17 years' time.
However, the latest observations accumulated over the last few days have confirmed the asteroid will fly harmlessly by.
Dr Don Yeomans, of the US space agency's (Nasa) Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said: "We can now rule out any impact possibilities for 1 February 2019."
Uncharted space
But further work needs to be done to confirm that 2002 NT7 is not a threat further into the future.
Dr Yeomans added: "While we cannot completely rule out an impact possibility for 1 February 2060, it seems very likely that this possibility will soon be ruled out as well.">
What I don't like is that in the article, they are debating whether to keep information secret, to avoid frightening the horses. I find that attitude contemptible. I will decide for myself if some information is valid enough for me to act on and don't need some damn government bossy-britches know-it-all telling me what I should or shouldn't take fright about.
They can just do the plumbing and the bean counting [which they seem incapable of doing so they shouldn't try to take more on - in case these stupid 'scientists' don't get it, we are each in the best position to decide for ourselves on any particular matter because each person is uniquely in charge of their own being and all the do-gooding supervision in the world can't replace the perspective of each individual.
It is extreme arrogance, like the USSR's total subsuming of the individual to the state, to presume to tell people what they shall think and what they shall do in response to what they think and what information they are allowed to have to add to their thinking department.
The USA used to have some slogans about freedom, individuals but it's hypocrisy [the British don't even pretend that individuals should have information and freedom - they concealed information about Chernobyl, Mad Cow Disease and generally do not let people know things and NZ has the Official Secrets Act].
<The intense worldwide interest in 2002 NT7 has prompted a debate in the astronomical community.
Following the object's discovery, and the realisation that it could strike the Earth in 2019, astronomers decided to make no announcement whilst they monitored the situation.
Some astronomers have been unhappy with what they see as alarmist reporting in the media, and they say that the policy on public disclosure of such information should be reviewed.>
Some astronomers can go back to work and come up with the facts, leaving it to everyone else to decide what they might like to do about anything the said astronomer might figure out. There's nothing like a bit of secrecy to really frighten people. It means there's something serious to panic about. How about the media names these ignorant secret society astronomers?

PS: Uncle Frank, I've decide that you are banned and Chojiro is welcome [taunting at a wake is good form]. When people have lost their life's savings, it's important that they be reminded that they are also stupid. |
