Clarion Selects ESS Technology's DVD Chip for Automobile DVD Players

Companies to Cooperate in the Development of DVD Players for Automobile Applications

FREMONT, Calif., July 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ESS Technology (Nasdaq: ESST - News), a leading provider of silicon solutions for digital video, digital home entertainment systems, and home networking solutions, and Clarion, a world-leading automobile multimedia and communication Japanese systems manufacturer, announced today that they have formed a long-term strategic partnership.

Clarion will incorporate ESS DVD chips in multiple automotive DVD product families. The first family includes Clarion's DVD Center-Unit, which is an all-in-one player that includes a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen and AM/FM 5.1 channel audio receiver. The next product family comprises Clarion's 6-disk DVD autochanger models. Both families are DVD-Video, Video-CD, CD-DA (CD-TEXT), CD-R/RW, and MP3 disk format compatible.
