Polanyi was a product of his times. Did you watch "Commanding Heights" on PBS this spring? I thought it was very good. It is about the 20th century clash between free market ideas vs. the command economy. We all know who won, but it's also true that there were social costs -- fewer social costs in a free market economy than in a command economy, but human costs every time there are social changes, just the same. pbs.org I find it fascinating that economics is so politicized. Mq is right, we need to take the money supply back from the politicians.
