Paul Rubin, M.D., Executive Vice President of Research and Development, has resigned to pursue other opportunities

This is the typical euphemism for "We fired his lazy, fat, cheating, incompetent butt".

While it's quite possible he did actually resign so he could pursue other unspecified opportunities, I fully expect to see other shoes drop during the next few months.
