Almost a buck a page for paper doesn't seem like much of a deal to me.

First, $0.90 per 8.5 X 11 sheet is list price and not the street price which would likely be 30-40% lower. A full-size page of paper would make about 4 typical 4" X 6" inch pictures...not to mention the cost savings of not having to pay for all the crummy pictures when you have a full roll of film developed. My wife tells me a 35mm roll of 24 4X6 prints costs $8-9 to have printed. If that is correct, each print is about $0.33 at a commercial developer versus $0.22 for the HP print (at list price and not counting ink).

Sounds like a good deal both to consumers and to HPQ to me! The big savings are being able to easily choose which negatives to print and which to discard.
