Seizing the oil fields is an "act of war"

Absolutely. I expect that the current US government would regard the seizure of Saudi Arabia by fundamentalists as justification for immediate war. They would even have a case: put that kind of revenue in the hands of Islamists for a few years, and serious havoc could be wrought.

The big unpredictable factor in the Saudi equation, of course, is where the Saudi armed forces would line up. For some reason it is in my mind that the military leadership is largely in the pro-Western camp, but I don't remember why I think that, and I certainly won't proclaim it as likely to be true. Does anyone have any links to material examining the likely moves of the Saudi military leadership in the event of a fundamentalist takeover attempt?
