Hi Karen... Just popped in to stalk the wife. I hardly see her anymore now that she is corrupting the minds of our nation's youth.

Now back to the point:

You've just handed [the employment rights] to someone else to execute for you as they see fit. I'm surprised that doesn't bother you.

Isn't that what representative democracy is? Handing over your rights and the execution thereof to someone else? What could be more democratic?

I've handed my right to grow my own food and build my own car to specialists. Might as well do the same with my medical and employment rights. If I'm a regulatory expert on compliance, I would suggest people come to see me before they try to "figure it out on their own." It isn' t like you don't get to vote for the union rep.

My first interaction with a union was rather negative. But I can't say the misdeeds there were any more grievous than than those actions that done by some companies of which I'm familiar. In fact, I'd say the vices I saw were largely only modest laziness and not unmitigated greed as was the case with some of the executives I saw in these companies. At least the union was generally in my court. I never got the feeling that my management was all that big of an advocate for me. And they out numbered me and had deeper pockets.
