NY Times castigates Dashole - just doesn't mention his name: The Times' Tom Boys A New York Times editorial denounces "the timber industry and opportunistic politicians" for exploiting recent forest fires "for commercial and ideological gain": The latest and most cynical manifestation of this impulse is a proposal by several Republican senators from Western states to suspend basic environmental laws in order to permit logging on up to 24 million acres of national forest land. The senators describe this as necessary to prevent further fires. Conservationists, quite rightly, see the proposal as an excuse to engage in widespread commercial harvesting in remote areas where wildfires pose no threat to people or property but where the opportunities for profit are substantial. The Times makes no mention of Tom Daschle's effort to enact a similar exemption for South Dakota forests. opinionjournal.com
