Who is on the public dole--renters vs. homeowners--is an interesting point to debate, but not without some figures about how much it's costing we the taxpayers ALREADY to house lower-income people in subsidized rentals.

Ever heard of Section 8? It's a HUD program which guarantees landlords receive timely rent payments from low-income tenants, much of which is paid directly to them by the government, while the tenant pays only a portion.

Some real estate investors love Section 8 tenants, because of the government guarantee. Others don't like them, because of all the paperwork involved. But Section 8 thrives, and it's not the only housing-subsidy program operating at federal, state and local government levels which cost the taxpayers dearly.
