Every company in the world that has plant property and equipment on its books reports depreciation differently on reports to shareholders versus the IRS

which part of my quote said anything about depreciation? are you so incompetent that you don't know the difference between what MSFT is doing in ESO's and and what most companies do in depreciation?

MSFT uses GAAP rules to hide EMPLOYEE PAY EXPENSES from the shareholder.... and then shows that same expense to the IRS......

Many companies do it, MSFT was the one who showed these companies how to do it in MASS..... by issuing so many stock options, that the issuing options usually counted more than most companies entire share COUNT.....

now two companies a day are starting to shy away from trying to hide this major expense from shareholders.... they see how ridiculous it is to hide this obvious expense.....

MSFT of course can never come clean with this ESO's, because they know how much of their cash flow comes from these ESO's.... they know what would happen to their earnings......

unfortunately most shareholders do not know.... that is the problematic part......
