Billserv Reports Second Quarter 2002 Results

Second Quarter Revenues Increase 19% Sequentially and 95% Year-Over-Year; eBill Presentments Continue to Grow Steadily

SAN ANTONIO, July 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Billserv, Inc. (Nasdaq: BLLS - News), the leading electronic bill presentment and payment (EBPP) Outsourced Solution Provider, today reported financial results for its second quarter ending June 30, 2002. Total revenues for the second quarter 2002 were $1.3 million, a 19% increase from $1.1 million for the previous quarter and a 95% increase from $690,000 for the same period last year.

Net loss for the second quarter of 2002 was $2.1 million or $0.10 per common share. During the second quarter 2002, the Company renegotiated the lease terms for its corporate headquarters to provide for a reduction in future rent expense of approximately $1.6 million. The lease amendment required the Company to expense a portion of its prepaid rent and leasehold improvements, resulting in a one-time charge of $346,000 for the second quarter 2002. Excluding this one-time charge, net loss for the second quarter was $1.8 million or $0.09 per common share, compared with a loss of $1.9 million or $0.09 per common share for the previous quarter and a loss of $2.6 million or $0.14 for the same period last year. . .
