Hi DJ-

One of the quintessential images of the Great Depression of the 1930s in America is the entire family in the family car, all packed up and heading west. One of these days I am going to do an on-line essay about it, entitled "Family Car."

Americans like to be mobile. Another quintessential American image is settlers heading west in a Conestoga wagon train. Whenever we get in trouble, we pack up and move out.

We Americans love our cars.
