Revenue shortfalls have to be made up by taxpayers. All the tax bennies R.E. gets creates revenue shortfall.
I imagine rent subsidies to the poor pale in comparison.

Remember when Steve Forbes and some others were touting a flat tax, removing most all deductions? The Real Estate industry actually took out radio adds fighting the idea.
There is pork and then there is big pork. Not to mention the Lawyers and Accountants who certainly don't favor a simplified tax code.
