NEC Awards Cadence Worldwide Contract for
IC Design Tools

World's Largest ASIC Supplier Places Multi-Million-Dollar
Software Order for EDA Industry Leader's Place-and-Route
Solution

TOKYO, July 17 /PRNewswire -- Cadence Design Systems, Inc.
(NYSE:CDN) today announced it has won a long-term contract valued at more
than $18 million from Japan's NEC Corporation for design software used to
create integrated circuits (ICs). The agreement will see NEC's design centers
around the world standardize on Cadence's place-and-route solution for deep
submicron (DSM) design.

A key component of the Cadence offering is the latest release of its
market-leading place-and-route tool for deep submicron design, Silicon
Ensemble-DSM. As NEC migrates more of its process technologies to DSM
geometries to enable system-on-chip design, Silicon Ensemble-DSM will be a
critical anchor of the approved design flow within NEC. Among Silicon
Ensemble-DSM's notable features is a breakthrough routing technology that
makes it up to 20 times faster than existing commercial solutions. Other Cadence
products NEC is adopting include Gate Ensemble, PDP, QPlace, PBS and
CT-Gen.

``Cadence's integrated approach to technology solutions for system-on-a-chip
design makes us a valuable partner to NEC,'' said Bob Wiederhold, vice
president and general manager of Cadence's Deep Submicron Business Unit. ``It
is clear that as we move forward into the era of designing complete systems on a
chip, a combination of leading-edge design tools plus a tightly integrated
partnership model with our customers will be critical.''
