This summer has been much uglier than even my worst case scenario. Investing is no longer fun for me; its just a matter of staying alive at this point.

The Merrill chief global strategist (forgot the name) was just on cnbc and asked for mkt advice for those in their 30s and 40s. He said something like, "see if you can do what you want in life without equity investments, if you can't- then risk what you need to to achieve your goals in stocks".

This summer is the first time I've heard advice where stocks are *not* the place to be for the long term. This negative sentiment is amazing to me, especially against the backdrop of the internet. So, what the heck, I'm buying tech here.

edit- and a followup to G's last post, the 960 target on the S&P from Merrill is for 12 mos going forward, in other words they don't expect any significant upside to the S&P until after next July.
