Not sure which is the more interesting - the sale by a market segment leader of a next generation technology, or the fact that they had to give it away in order to get off of it.

Maybe Straus is on the up-and-up in saying they needed to bet on what would work for them in the short run in order to survive, and they simply couldn't afford to carry the overhead.

Speaks rather poorly of fiber's prospects going forward, though. Looks like more ouchies are in store for NT, LU, GLW, etc.

How the mighty have fallen. I quite clearly remember when JDSU's market cap exceeded that of GM
