although i believe you meant this with sarcasm, it's actually a true statement--true insofar as these technologies have failed to make money for their adopting carriers. by the same token, the railroad revolution of the 1800s (which led to much greater productivity improvements than any brand of wireless technology, btw) was an abject failure from the perspective of railroad companies, who all went bankrupt.

so in that sense, your argument is truer than you meant it to be. OTOH, your primary point (that one cannot consider 1x the technology a failure simply because the stocks of 1x carriers are down) is valid. the bad news is...well, if you want the bad news, just read a financial history of the railroad industry.
